TRAVELLING THROUGH MY MIND

Thursday 31 March 2011

Sucker punch and dolls

Have you seen the film? I really like the beginning: the fluently images, the colours, the light, the movement of the camara, that creation of a modern mude-like-film... But after the credits it goes down as fast as a waterfall. Action scenes were typical and a little boring but the aesthetics is good.
You will travel through baby doll's fantasy, trying to escape from the reality of a mental institution.
The influence of the pop Japanese culture is visible in every minute of the film. And in the soundtrack you will find a version of "Sweet dreams (are made of this)" - the protagonist sings it, "Army of me" by Björk, and "Search and destroy" by Skunk Anansie. You should see it.
And although some women think it's a film made for men, I don't agree at all. There's a big lesson these women would learn: Good make-up is cheaper and better than cosmetic surgery :), just see the real cast:

Yes, they are the cast

Bertrand Russell + Blind Melon (change)

Man needs, for his happiness, not only the enjoyment of this or that, but hope and enterprise and change(B.R.)

...When you feel your life ain't worth living
you've got to stand up and

take a look around you then a look way up to the sky.

And when your deepest thoughts are broken,

keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die.(S.H.)

John Currin vs Peter Lindbergh+Julianne Moore

 “The Cripple” John Currin
I've always liked this painting from John Currin, such a mixture of clasicism and the deconstruction of modern advertising... Is this a crippled body? This gorgeous image, which fills up the air with her strange smile? Is that really a walking stick?
Sometimes, you feel so dark inside that light seems to escape from you, but this image seems so full of life, so enlightening.. you hardly see that "Cripple".
Julianne Moore, shot by Peter Lindbergh for Harper's Bazaar, tried to give life to this magnificient painting. I like the photo they managed to shot. So much life exhaling...

Kandinsky + Lowell . Blue feelings

Kandinsky-Blue

The night attendant, a B.U. sophomore,
rouses from the mare's-nest of his drowsy head
propped on The Meaning of Meaning.
He catwalks down our corridor.
Azure day
makes my agonized blue window bleaker.
Crows maunder on the petrified fairway.
Absence! My hearts grows tense
as though a harpoon were sparring for the kill.
(This is the house for the "mentally ill.")
Robert Lowell

Dearest friend

Shizue, a friend of mine, went to Tokyo to have an operation. I can't get her on the phone. She doesn't use internet, so I don't have anyother way to contact her. I know Tokyo is not affected now, but I'm worried.
She's one of the most nice, generous, charming, sweet, smart and beautiful people I've ever me, but her eyes are ill and she's very afraid of wind and tsunamis.
Shizue, please, come back soon. Everybody loves you so much here!

I've just watched this video in youtube: it's a shame that they've worried us so much, and these people living there have to tell us: stay calm, it's not true. Thank you guys!
Sorry about the video, they speak Spanish, but I'll try to find something similar in English and post it here. But, aren't you angry with Spanish media?

Enjoy the Garden of Earthly Delights

Hieronymus Bosch- Garden of Earthly Delight(click to enlarge)
The first time I was in front of this painting, I felt a shake inside, trainspotting my blood with a new concept of life, that I could look at death face to face and say: "Nothing has more priority than feeling this life. I don't mind what they've told me about moral and paradise.  I'll live on my own."

Now you come to remember me one thing: Enjoy this earthly garden. "Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost " (Avenged Sevenfold lyric)

EGON SCHIELE

One of my fauvorite painters: Egon Schiele (1890-1918) (you may have deduced it from my background: "Seated Female Nude with Raised Right").
Austrian, disciple of Gustav Klimt, his paintings are full of erotism  in an eccentric tension of  autonomous colour.
His work is full of  nudes and self-portraits, where the space is -may I use Milan Kundera's words-" the umbereable lightness of being", loneliness in pure state, swimming between expresionism and art noveau.
These are some of his most famous pictures:
Nude selfportrait
Sitting woman with legs drawn up
Two women
